Art Museum Visit #1

    A)   The FREE MONEY sculpture by Tom Otterness is located at the Nassau County Museum of Modern Art.  This sculpture caught my eye because it reminded me of the banker from monopoly.  Another work that caught my attention was the oil on canvas painting called At the Well by Daniel Ridgeway Knight.  I liked this painting because of the use of so much color.  The painting looks like it could be a framed photograph.  The garden the women are standing in looks serene and peaceful.

         B)   I felt a connection with the oil on canvas painting Landscape with Poppies by Paul Georges because it reminded me of a place I like to walk my dog.  The dog in the painting and surroundings remind me of the nice walks we have.  I also liked the painting Spray of Great Yellow Marechal Niel Roses by Martin Johnson Heade because roses are my favorite flowers.  The painting looks so realistic and the gold frame brings out the colors in the flowers.

        C)   I would like to know more about the artist Carson Fox’s inspiration for their piece called Virginia Garden.  To me the work looks like the ocean and its creatures inspired it.  Specifically star fish, jellyfish and shellfish.  The title of the work is Virginia Garden, which to me means it was most likely inspired by an actual garden.  Another piece I would like to know more about is Flowers in a Blue Vase, After Chardin from the series Pictures of Magazines by Vik Muniz.  I liked this piece because it looked like a collage.  I would like to know a little bit more about the medium this artist chose to create his work.

  1. I really enjoyed the Virginia Garden piece you selected, it is the kind of paintings that I connect with. It reminds me of the hanging flowers and trellises that are on the old Victorian homes in my neighborhood.

  3. I thought your choices of works of art were interesting, because I am also drawn to similar works of art myself. I can see your connection with the painting titled "Landscape with Poppies" with the dog in it, because I also have a dog and I personally see my own backyard in connection to the painting.

  5. Definitely enjoyed your choices in works. I did not pick anything like them, but they have opened my eyes to other possibilities that I may have missed, or dismissed while I was there!
